Owen Family Update - Week of April 4th, 2022

Dear Owen Parents/Guardians,

We would like to welcome back Mme Hammond to Owen. Mme Hammond will be coteaching  the FI 2/3 class with Monsieur Pinchuk at the beginning of the week.  This will be M Pinchuk's last week at Owen.  Thank you M Pinchuk for all that you have done at Owen.  Bonne chance and we will miss you!

You will also be welcomed by Ms Talia in the mornings who is back at Owen as our morning secretary.  Please welcome our staff by popping in to say hello!

While working out at Goodlife I was saw this sticker on one of the machines and was thinking about how proud we are at Owen.  We would like to thank our parents, staff and students for being considerate and still practicing health and safety protocols by washing and sanitizing their hands, keeping a distance when eating, wearing a mask and staying home when sick.  We are stronger together when we work together!  We do have lots of students and families sick with covid and the flu.  Students showing symptoms of sickness at school will be resting in our wellness room until parents are able to pick them up.

Dress for Weather

We will be having lots of puddles and muddy areas in our playground with the frequent rain.  Please remember to send extra clothes for those wet days.  Students will be outside even with light rain.  Students can have their boots, raincoats and umbrellas to enjoy the spring weather!

Moving Out of Owen for September 2022?

As we are beginning the process for next year please let us know if your child will be moving to another school.  We want to make sure their Ontario Student Records or any other important information gets forwarded to their new school.  If students are moving out of the province, their Ontario Student Records stay at Owen and can be retrieved if they return to Ontario.

Grade 5 students graduating will also need to complete this form.

Want to Volunteer? Police Check Required

As we slowly transition to having visitors back at school we want to remind parents that a police check is required to volunteer at our school events, lunch programs or class trips. Police checks are mandated to ensure the safety of all students.

If you have already done a police check please see Ms Nahid in person in the office to do your annual declaration.

If you have not done one, please pick up a police check form from the office or download the police check form.  It requires an office staff to witness it.  Please bring this to the office ASAP if you would like to volunteer.  It does take several weeks so please start this process early so you won't be disappointed!

Pick up After School

We value student learning and every minute counts.  When students are called to the office to leave early, it is a disruption to the entire class.  To help us reduce the disruption of learning for all students, here is what you can do to help:
  • Book appointments during lunch or after school or before school begins.
  • Send an email to owenps@tdsb.on.ca and your classroom teacher notifying when your child is signing out.
  • Sign out your child by 3:00 pm so the last period is not disrupted.
  • Parents coming after 3:15 pm will be asked to wait until the 3:40 pm bell and to meet their child at their classroom door.  With bus, daycare pick up and classroom pick up it gets very busy and we want to make sure students know exactly where to go at the end of the day.
If your child takes the bus and their is a change in plans after school, please call the school so the office staff can notify the classroom teacher or the student.  Emails at the end of the day may not be picked up in time.
