Owen Online - Last week of school!

THANK YOU!!!

What an incredible week! Staff Appreciation Lunch, Shakespeare in the Park, Play Day, Spring Fling, Volunteer Breakfast... could we fit any more in this week!!! A sincere thank you and our deepest appreciation to all the staff, students, parents and volunteers who made all these events run so beautifully this week.

Your ability to jump in and lend a hand, organize down the last detail, and support our staff and students is really what makes Owen an amazing place and a wonderful community to live and work. We don't have the words to express our gratitude but please accept our thanks and know that the effort you put in to the school is truly amazing!!!

Hey Everyone!!
Have you heard of the White Elephant Sale? Well guess what, it is happening on June 26… We will be having it in the library all day!!! Have you ever felt like you just have to have toy, but you can’t buy it because it is too expensive? We know we have… Here’s the good news, you might be able to find it at the White Elephant sale from only 25 cents - $10.00!!

For the white elephant sale, you can bring only one toy if you choose and it has to be in fair condition or better. If you bring a puzzle, please make sure that the box is not ripped and make sure that it has all the pieces. You can bring as many as used books as you would like, if you feel that you have some old books that are still good and you feel like you won’t read it again, please donate it to The White Elephant Sale!

Lost and Found
Please check the lost and found as we are preparing to donate all items shortly. The lost and found items can be found outside the main office in the hallway.

Toronto planning to allow photo radar
outside all elementary schools

Summary: The city is pushing ahead with plans to implement photo radar systems to catch and fine drivers who speed near schools. A report going to the public works committee next week recommends council designate as “community safety zones” the areas around entrances to all  elementary schools in the city, a bylaw change that would double the fines for speeding and open the door for the city to implement automatic enforcement measures like photo radar in the designated areas. Link here for full article.

Volunteering @ Owen

Interested in volunteering for field trips, in the classroom, or around the school? Please complete a Police Check now so it's all ready for September! If you have completed one and submitted to the office already, there is no need to complete another one but please see Ms. Elizabeth in the office to complete an annual declaration (it only takes a minute!).

Application forms are attached to the email.

TERRY FOX VIDEO

The Terry Fox Foundation reached out to Owen on April 30th, with the hope that we might consider being part of a mock video of our Terry Fox Day, that was originally held in September. They recognize that Owen Public School has been a longstanding supporter of the School Run for 22 years, having raised almost $120,000.00 for cancer research. It is their intention to “replay” a portion of our run (under the guidance of their contracted Film Production firm) and capture that enthusiasm on camera to share it with 9,000 schools across Canada.

The video will be used as a valuable resource by all participating schools to support the Terry Fox School Run. We are very excited about this project which will take place on, Friday, June 15th (rain date Monday, June 18th).

Please be sure to return your child's media release form by Monday, June 4th.

Thank you for your continued support,

Diana Moreau and Lynne Hall

Hi Everyone,

It seems that the chart we shared earlier this week, comparing the major provincial party positions on education and how they stand next to Ontario Public School Boards' Association's priorities, has since been updated. This means the link shared in the original email is, unfortunately, no longer working. Please find the new link below.

You can find that document, and other information about the upcoming provincial election on OPSBA's webpage.

A reminder that our last Community Coffee with Gerri will be Thursday June 21 at 9:15 am at Longo’s on Laird (on the second floor). I am looking forward to seeing you all again. In the meanwhile, have a great weekend and once again don't forget to vote in the provincial elections on June 7th!
