Dear Owen Parents/Guardians,
We've had a great week adjusting to our new covid routines. As we move into our phase 2 we will see a bit more mixing of students, have more areas for students to play in, introducing pizza lunch and begin to organize a few after school programs. Stay tuned as information will be sent as these events begin. We are also looking at possibilities of some field trips for our classes too. Please see below for police check information if you would like to volunteer at Owen.
If your child is sick, please have them rest at home. If you require a rapid or PCR test, please call the school.
Save the date! There will a vaccine clinic on Saturday April 2nd from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Owen. More information will be sent later in the week.

2nd Phase for Covid Transition
Last week many classes have begun to make changes in the classroom to make more space and allow for group work in the classroom. This week we will begin to transition back to our Kindergarten, Primary and Junior areas outside to allow more space for the students to play in.
Next week we will revert back to one recess and one lunch to allow our French and English students to mingle and get to know each other during these times.
Pizza Lunch (April 2022 - June 2022)
As part of our school fundraising initiatives, the Owen Parent Council is once again organizing pizza lunches for students. We provide Cheese Pizza and a 100% fruit juice box.
Pizza Lunch A: One slice cheese pizza & one drink - ($5.50 x 10) = $55.00
Pizza Lunch B: Two slices cheese pizza & one drink - ($6.75 x 10) = $67.50
This year we are happy to announce we will be having pizza lunch on the following dates. The dates for April to June are as follows:
Lunches must be paid in one payment for the period online on the School Cash Website https://tdsb.schoolcashonline.com
If you require financial assistance, please speak with your child’s teacher, or send an email to caroline.rosenbloom@tdsb.on.ca.
Volunteers are needed on each pizza lunch day from 11:15am to 12:00pm. Please consider signing up to help oversee a grade of your choice. If you would like to help, please contact the Pizza Lunch Coordinators.
All Pizza Orders MUST be in by Monday April 11th, 2022
**Please note: you can NOT order pizza the day of pizza lunch because we place the order well in advance.
If you have any questions, please contact Pizza Lunch Coordinator Mike at owenpizzalunch@outlook.com
Police Check
If you have already done a police check please see Ms Nahid to do your annual declaration online. If you have not done one, please pick up a police check form from the office or download the police check form. Take it to your nearest police station for a check as a volunteer. It does take several weeks so please start this process early so you won't be disappointed!
Welcoming Parents and Visitors Back to School
- Visitors are to start their visit and buzz at Door 1. Covid screening is required and parents/visitors can go to the office as directed.
- Parents/Visitors may not wander around the school. Students will continue to be enter and be picked up at their outside doors. The front doors are only used for late students or students leaving early for appointments.
- Parents who are late after school should notify the school. Students will be brought to the office after school to wait for parents in front of the office.
- All visitors are to sign in at the office and take a visitor pass prior to entering classrooms or spaces they are volunteering in.
Message from the Eco Club!
Dear Owen Family,
Simple daily actions, such as using a reusable water bottle, can have a big impact on the environment. On March 29 our whole school will be participating in The Great Gulp, by taking a drink of tap water from a reusable bottle, glass, or mug. Through this simple action we hope to raise awareness about drinking water, access to safe and healthy tap water, and the importance of reducing single-use plastic waste in Canada.
We encourage you and your family to join us in this initiative by organizing a Great Gulp with members of your household, or with family and friends virtually. You can also find other activities to do at home to extend this learning, by checking out the ecoschools.ca/thegreatgulp. We look forward to hearing about the unique ways your family participated in raising awareness and taking action! Take videos or pictures and send them to jamie.parkes@tdsb.on.ca to share on Owen Online.
From,Owen Public School’s Eco Club
PLEASE NOTE: We will no longer provide plastic spoons, forks or cups. Reusable cutlery can be provided based on availability. Students are expected to bring water bottles. We do have Owen water bottles for sale if needed.
