Dear Owen Parents/Guardians,
We would like to thank Ms Hall for returning to Owen to work with our Grade 1s. She has always shown passion and care and these Grade 1s saw that. We wish her all the best for the rest of her retirement. We would like to welcome back Mr Pinchuk who will be taking over for the Gr 1 class. Mr Pinchuk just finished his time with our FI 2/3 class as Ms Hammond returned from maternity leave.
We hope that everyone has a restful and enjoyable long weekend. If you are observing Ramadan, Ramadan Mubarak. If you are celebrating Easter, Happy Easter. If you are celebrating Passover, chag sameach. And Thursday was the Tamil New Year, so may the sun bless you with happiness, riches and glory for Puthandu!

Moving Out of Owen for September 2022?
As we are beginning the process for next year please let us know if your child will be moving to another school. We want to make sure their Ontario Student Records or any other important information gets forwarded to their new school. If students are moving out of the province, their Ontario Student Records stay at Owen and can be retrieved if they return to Ontario.
Grade 5 students graduating will also need to complete this form by Monday April 18th as schools will begin creating class lists for next year.

Want to Volunteer? Police Check Required
If you have already done a police check please see Ms Nahid in person in the office to do your annual declaration.
If you have not done one, please pick up a police check form from the office or download the police check form. It requires an office staff to witness it. Please bring this to the office ASAP if you would like to volunteer. It does take several weeks so please start this process early so you won't be disappointed!
Masks
Earlier this week, Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health said he “strongly recommends” wearing a mask in indoor public spaces. Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam is also advising Canadians to continue wearing a mask, while Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, said she still recommends the use of masks indoors, especially amid an increase in COVID-19 cases.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the TDSB has prioritized the health and safety of both staff and students. While the TDSB takes its direction from the province, which does not require masks, given the increase in COVID-19 cases and the high number of absences, we as a system, are asking that all staff and students wear a well fitting mask when indoors in TDSB schools and buildings to limit the spread of COVID-19 and help minimize disruption from COVID-related absences. To be clear, this remains a personal decision.
We also want to remind you that masks are required in the following circumstances:
· - For days 6-10 after a self-isolation period of five days after a COVD-19 diagnosis. Learn more.
· - If you are identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19. Learn more.
· - In public spaces, including schools and childcares, for the first 14 days following travel outside of Canada. Learn more.
Please continue to complete the daily screening before you come to school each day and stay home if you have not passed the screening. While not required to show verification as you enter a building, the TDSB Health Screening App is still updated and available for your use.
And, other health and safety measures that remain in place include:
· - Continuing to provide masks to staff and students upon request
· - Optimizing air quality and ventilation, including having more than 17,000 HEPA filters in all occupied classrooms and in admin sites
· - Continuing to distribute Rapid Antigen Tests to support symptomatic testing
· - Enhanced cleaning
· - Encouraging hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, such as coughing into your sleeve
Schools and all TDSB spaces will remain welcoming, respectful and safe places for all, no matter what others’ personal decisions may be. Thank you for your consideration of this important measure. We know that it is not where we expected or hoped to be but our collective actions can make a difference.
COVID-19 Resources

With the onset of warmer weather, we have noticed more children coming and going from school not wearing their seatbelts. It's estimated every 32 seconds, one child under the age of 13 in a passenger vehicle is involved in a crash.
With proper use of car seats, booster, and seat belts, many injuries and deaths may be prevented. Owen PS reminds families to ensure child passengers are safely secured.
