Owen Online Newsletter: July 2022

Dear Owen Parents/Guardians,

It's been a busy year with lots of surprises till the end.  My family and I would like to thank our amazing students, staff and parent community for all your support during my heart surgery.  The cards, gifts and emails were much appreciated and lovely to see during that time.

Thank you Owen Parent Council for the beautiful gift basket created by our own Owen parent Krista Koteff (Kr8 Inc)!

My recovery has been going very well and I'm using this summer to get back my strength and looking forward to being back at school in the fall.


We were fortunate to have Ms Sima Naymark to cover during my absence.  Thank you Ms Naymark for your support and help.  Owen really appreciates it and wish you all the best in your retirement.

Congratulations Ms Talia!  Ms Talia has been promoted from Secretary to Office Administrator and will be starting at Lawrence Heights Middle School in August.  Wishing you all the best in your new role.

We would also like to thank Mr Jamie Parkes who will be moving to John Wanless Junior PS as Vice-Principal.  Mr Parkes has been with us for nearly 2 years and we will miss him.  All the best at your new school and we know your students will be excited to have you there.

Ms Melissa Berger who was to be our new Vice-Principal has been promoted to Principal.  Though it is our loss, it is a huge gain to the students at North Bridlewood Junior PS.  Congratulations Ms Berger!

We would like to welcome Ms Hella Richter-Glinos, our new Vice-Principal!  Ms Richter-Glinos has much experience as a Digital Lead Learner and we are very excited to have her part of our Owen family.  We look forward to working with her in September! Please see the letters attached to the email with the official announcement from Superintendent Roni Felsen and Trustee Rachel Chernos Lin.

We would also like to thank Mr Vernon for assuming the Acting Head Caretaker role.  You make a difference at Owen and help keep our students and staff, healthy and safe.  Thank you!

Have a wonderful summer everyone!  We wish our graduating students and those moving out of Owen all the best at their new schools. We will see everyone else back in September!

More Goodbyes and Thank Yous!

Owen has been fortunate to have amazing staff and unfortunately staff have been surplus or will be looking for permanent positions.  We have had to say to goodbye to several of our staff.  We would like to thank and wish the following staff all the best in their new schools.  We will miss you greatly and know the impact you have all had at Owen. Your students will be lucky to have you!

First Day of School

The school is now closed for the summer. The office opens August 29th, 2022. Kindergarten parents will receive an email at the beginning of August with important information to help prepare for the school year. An email will be sent on the Labour Day weekend to parents of other grades to let you know where your child's class will be.
