Owen Family Update- Week of June 27th, 2022

 Dear Owen Parents/Guardians,

The last day of school for the 2021-22 year is this Thursday.  We hope everyone has a relaxing summer full of outdoor play and adventures.

Reports cards will be sent home tomorrow (Monday June 28th).   Grade 5 Graduation will be at 10 am on Tuesday, June 29th.

From Sima Naymark:  I t has been amazing to be a part of your school for these past months.  My job was to be a caretaker for Ms. Rosenbloom's community, and I hope I was able to do that in my time here.

From Jamie Parkes:  I am proud of the students of Owen for the resiliency they have shown in the face of Covid, and in their ability to reintegrate so successfully into their classroom environments.  While the past two years have had their challenges, it is my hope that we continue to show the resiliency, and self-regulation that is necessary to overcome.

I would like to personally thank the students of Owen, and the staff, for welcoming into their community for the past two years.  It was a wonderful learning opportunity, and I will take a piece of Owen with me to John Wanless.

LOST AND FOUND

Hello Owen Community,

As the school year winds down, the Lost and Found has grown into a mountain of unclaimed items.

Please take a moment to visit the front entrance of the school from Monday-Wednesday of next week, or ask your child to come pick up any items that you recognize as missing.

Any items not picked up by the end of Wednesday will be donated.

Owen Family Update- Week of June 20th, 2022

 Dear Owen Parents/Guardians,

This is the penultimate week of the 2021-22 school year!  We have an outdoor "playday" on Monday, and all parents are reminded that their kids need a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle, and a change of clothes (as they may get wet!)

Our highly successful Pizza Lunch program has finished for the year.  There are no more scheduled lunches for this year, but look for them to begin again in September.  A monumental thank you to the organizers of the pizza lunch program, and all of the parent and student volunteers who made it an outstanding (and lucrative) success.

Popcorn day returns this week on Friday.

*** As a reminder, you need to email the office and your child's classroom teacher PRIOR to the start of the school day of any early pick-ups or appointments.  This also shouldn't be done during the last period of the day.   Please help our office staff out with this, as sometimes, they are at work in other areas and unavailable to help.

*** This also applies to those who ride the bus.  If you plan on picking your child up, and not have them ride, the teacher and the office needs to know before the start of the day.   Calls that come in at the last minute may be missed.  We had 2 incidents last week where kids got on the bus, but parents arrived to pick them up.  This delays the bus for everyone, and other schools as well (depending on the route).

Family and Caregiver Early Literacy Website

As part of our commitment to early reading, Early Years has developed a family and caregiver website to encourage families and caregivers to explore early literacy in their home and community.  This website supplements the Family and Caregiver Guide that was released last week that outlines the vision of early reading in the TDSB in partnership with families and communities.  Both the website and the Guide are led by our vision of families and provide an overview of foundational early reading skills and essential instructional approaches.  Suggestions of strategies for families and caregivers are shared in both resources that  extend, respond and honour children’s competencies in early literacy behaviours.
