Owen Family Update - Week of January 30 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is like a winter wonderland at Owen.  We have lots of snow everywhere and the kids are loving it! So are the animals.  Watch this video of one of our neighbourhood skunks following Ms Kruklis one morning.

We would like to thank our many parents who have donated snacks, cutlery and winter clothing to help our Owen families.  We also would like to thank our parents who Paid It Forward for our Snow Valley trip and donated a trip for a student in need.  We had approx 16 families Pay Forward to help our students in financial need.

Our community has changed over the years and we have many families new to Canada.  Our Owen community has been generous which helps these families with the transition to their new homes.

What a wonderful community we have! Thank you for keeping the Owen spirit.

Call for Snacks

We would like to thank the following families for donating snacks for this round.

- Sam Boampong (Mme Wlodek)
- Ryan Malen (Mr Rebick)
- Kaiden Pai (Ms Goldstein)
- Adriano Moini (Mme Lee)
- Lammy Tao (Ms Antoniou)
- Serena Mammola (Mme Mera)

Snacks are important and sometimes we have those who forget or didn't pack enough for the day. Students can come to the office to ask for a snack but to note these are not for students to come daily. Thank you to these families for proving these great healthy snacks! We are good for this round and will put another call once our supply is depleted.

Missing a spoon or fork?

We are still in need of just forks.  If you have some extras please send them to the office.
We would like to thank Arya Shajari's family (Ms Yu) for donating a set to school.

If your child forgot a spoon or fork, they can come to the office to get one from the CLEAN cup.  When they are done, they can bring it to the DIRTY cup in which it will be cleaned in the dishwasher ready for the next day.

Days of Significance

February is: African Heritage (Black History) Month

"During the month of February, the TDSB proudly recognizes African Heritage (Black History) Month. It is an occasion to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of peoples of African descent to Canada and the world. The chosen theme for 2022-2023 is Black Joy.

The theme of Black Joy was selected this year by the African Heritage Month Volunteer Planning Committee. This academic school year, "Joy" is one of TDSB's two overarching priorities. The first priority being the importance of joy, engagement and belonging in our schools as a foundation for academic achievement and student success; and the second priority being the elimination of disproportionate outcomes for students. Black Joy emulates how Black People have been able to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally as a People and as a Community, despite the systemic barriers and oppression faced."

February is also: Chinese Heritage Month

The TDSB honours the stories and identities of our students each and every day. In February, we recognize Chinese Heritage Month.

As mentioned above...

"We are always looking for families to create displays in our front foyer to share their special cultural holidays.  If you would like to share your special holiday, please contact the office and we'll arrange a time for you and some students to help with the display.

Some Days of Significance in the coming week are:
