Owen Family Update - Week of February 21 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We had lots of Owen spirit this week and and really felt like the old days.  We saw lots of red and pink during Valentine's and many enjoyed their cookies thanks to Parent Council!

We also had our Winter Activity Day.  You will find lots of photos below with our Grade 1s and 2s enjoying their day at school and our Grade 3-5s enjoying the fresh air at Snow Valley.  Thanks to the amazing staff for organizing these events!  The kids had lots of fun.

Thank you Mme Morris and Cheryl from childcare in putting together such a beautiful display for African Heritage Month.  This year's theme is Black Joy and here are many things that represent Black Joy to their families.  What represents Black Joy for your family?

We would like to wish all our families a Happy Family Day weekend.  This is a time to be present with our families and enjoy the weekend doing things together.

Happy Family Day from our families to yours.

~ Your Friendly Admin Team

At North York Central Library, they are running an After School Club on Thursdays from 4-5pm, from February 2 to March 9, for kids aged 6-12. Last Thursday Feb 9, they were learning about coding and robotics, using Dash robots. In the following weeks, kids will learn about how to create short movies using stop-motion animation, and snap circuits. aka M&M Math

This game can be played against a friend or against the computer.

Players take it in turns to click on a dot on the grid - the first player's dots will be blue and the second player's (or computer's) will be red.
If you choose to play with a friend rather than the computer click '2 player'. (Click '1 player' if you choose to play the computer.)
The winner is the first to have four dots that are shown joined by straight lines to form a square.

Days of Significance

February is: African Heritage (Black History) Month

"During the month of February, the TDSB proudly recognizes African Heritage (Black History) Month. It is an occasion to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of peoples of African descent to Canada and the world. The chosen theme for 2022-2023 is Black Joy.

The theme of Black Joy was selected this year by the African Heritage Month Volunteer Planning Committee. This academic school year, "Joy" is one of TDSB's two overarching priorities. The first priority being the importance of joy, engagement and belonging in our schools as a foundation for academic achievement and student success; and the second priority being the elimination of disproportionate outcomes for students. Black Joy emulates how Black People have been able to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally as a People and as a Community, despite the systemic barriers and oppression faced."

February is also: Chinese Heritage Month

The TDSB honours the stories and identities of our students each and every day. In February, we recognize Chinese Heritage Month.

As mentioned above...

"We are always looking for families to create displays in our front foyer to share their special cultural holidays.  If you would like to share your special holiday, please contact the office and we'll arrange a time for you and some students to help with the display.

Some Days of Significance in the coming week are:
