Owen Family Update - Week of October 24th 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We had an exciting week at Owen.  Our Director of Education, Colleen Russell-Rawlings came for a visit on Thursday to meet with students and staff and see all the great things going on at Owen! Director Russell-Rawlings had an opportunity to interact with our students and asked questions like:

  • What are you learning?
  • Why is it important?
  • How will you know if you’re successful?
  • Do you feel you belong in your school and classroom?
Students also had an opportunity to ask her questions.  When they were told that the Director's picture was at the front of their agenda, they were so excited to meet her in person.  She was a celebrity!

We were also very lucky to have Mme Mera be presented with the TDSB pin to celebrate her 25 years of service with the board.  What an honour it was to receive this directly from the Director of Education!

A very exciting week!

We would like to thank Ms Soña, DECE for her care and time spent with our Owen students in Ms Buchanan's class.  We would like to wish her all the best at her new school!

We would also like to welcome Mr Scott Beaune, our new Head Caretaker. Mr
Scott started on Monday and has been able to mingle with our Owen community already.  Scott comes with experience from a variety schools and is a great addition to our Owen team.
We'd like to give a big thank you to Mr Vernon who has been taking on the role for almost a year.  We appreciate all that he has done to advocate for Owen and still glad he will be with us back in his regular role.
Thank you Mr Vernon and we look forward to getting to know Mr Scott!

Pumpkin Carving Contest

It's time to get creative while reading Owen Families! We will be hosting our annual Pumpkin Painting Contest based on your favourite book characters. All pumpkins submitted will be kept on display in the front hall for all to see. Classes will also have an opportunity to vote for their favourite pumpkin, so get your creative juices flowing!

Some pictures/examples are below.

Some rules to remember:

1) Pumpkins should be painted, not carved, as they will be kept on display.

2) Please include your child's name, class, and the character and book that the pumpkin is based on. This can be written in sharpie on the bottom of the pumpkin or on a card attached to the pumpkin.

3) All pumpkins must be submitted by Friday October 28th.

Any questions can be directed to Ms Tobin at michelle.tobin-krofchick@tdsb.on.ca
