Owen Family Update - Week of October 17th 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our classes have been working hard and adjusting to our first term.  New classes are well on their way and assessments and evaluations are happening to gather evidence of learning for the progress reports.  Consistent attendance is essential for students to succeed.  We thank parents for supporting their children during these time. Just a reminder that if you have questions about your child's progress or program, please contact your child's teacher.

We are always looking at ways to have families share their culture to teach others about key holidays for their family.  If you would like to create a display in our front display case, please let us know and we'll arrange a time to prepare it.

Dress appropriately as the weather is wet and cold on many days!  Students will be outside for recess and gym classes.

In general, students are not permitted to call home during the school day.  There are only a few rare exceptions, such as when a child is ill, hurt or has forgotten their lunch.

No Sharing Snacks Please

For the safety of students who have life threatening allergies, please remind your child to never share their snacks with anyone.  Please also avoid send any products containing peanuts or nuts in your child's lunch bag.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

It's time to get creative while reading Owen Families! We will be hosting our annual Pumpkin Painting Contest based on your favourite book characters. All pumpkins submitted will be kept on display in the front hall for all to see. Classes will also have an opportunity to vote for their favourite pumpkin, so get your creative juices flowing!

Some pictures/examples are below.

Some rules to remember:

1) Pumpkins should be painted, not carved, as they will be kept on display.

2) Please include your child's name, class, and the character and book that the pumpkin is based on. This can be written in sharpie on the bottom of the pumpkin or on a card attached to the pumpkin.

3) All pumpkins must be submitted by Friday October 28th.

Any questions can be directed to Ms Tobin at michelle.tobin-krofchick@tdsb.on.ca
