Owen Family Update - Week of March 7th, 2022

Dear Owen Parents/Guardians,

We are dealing with trying times and we need the support of one another more than ever. More recently, we've seen the protests happen in Ottawa, anti-black and anti-semitic graffiti in our schools, and still recovering from COVID for almost two years. We are deeply saddened by the unrest in Russia & Ukraine and understand this may impact our students, their families and our staff in different ways.  Our thoughts are with them as many are worried about their families back home.  We are always here to support our Owen community.

March Break

We have one week left until March Break! We will be using this time to rejuvenate our minds and body and enjoy quality time with family and friends.  We hope all our families have an opportunity to do this too.

The school will be closed from March 14th - 18th 2022.  We will return on Monday March 21st.

Student Assembly - African Heritage Month

Our Grade 3 team ran an amazing presentation for our student assembly for Black History Month.  We are so proud of their accomplishments and their advocacy.  If you missed the assembly, you can watch it here.

Greek Heritage Month

The Toronto District School Board is proud to recognize Greek Heritage Month (GHM) during the month of March.

During the month of March, several activities will be shared to mark GHM. A poster contest was held and all students from the Toronto District School Board were invited to submit images that best reflected this year’s theme. The selected images are posted below. The theme for this year is based on healthy living:
“Harmony of Life - Healthy Mind, Healthy Body”
“Αρμονια της Zωης - Νους υγιης εν σωματι υγιει”

Visit the GHM website for information and resources.

Watch our Morning Announcers and our primary students learn the Zorba Dance in celebration of Greek Heritage Month.

Sweater Day - March 10, 2022

Hi Owen Families!

On Thursday, March 10th we are going to help to conserve energy and help our planet. Wear a sweater to school to stay warm and cozy. Want to continue helping the planet at home? Pick a day on March Break to turn down the Thermostat and dress warm inside your home.  Snap a family picture of you being warm in your sweaters to Mr. Parkes at Jamie.Parkes@tdsb.on.ca.

Thank you so much!
