Owen Family Update - Week of November 9, 2020

Hello Owen Families,

Our front loop traffic has been much better this year. Thank you for making the effort to decrease our traffic at the front of the school.  The back of the school is still an issue.  Parents continue to still park on the crosswalk in the back which make it very dangerous for students and parents crossing in this area.  Last year we had two near misses of students and one parent being hit when parents are backing up. Please keep our streets safe and park in the designated areas.  If you see cars parked on the crosswalks, please take a picture and send it to the office.

Remembrance Day:

During Veterans’ Week 2020, from November 5 to 11, Canadians will once again pay tribute to Canadian veterans who have served and who continue to serve this country with pride.

This year the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on all of our daily lives.  It has also affected planning for the Department of National Defence’s National Veterans’ Week Speakers Program.

In order to keep the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and Canadians safe and healthy – CAF will be suspending in-person presentations this year.  Owen also will not be able to host a Remembrance Day ceremony as we usually do.

Canada’s military history is best understood through the stories of the brave men and women who lived it – our Veterans. The Heroes Remember database gives us a window into the lives of ordinary Canadians who answered the call to serve in uniform over the years. Explore our collection of video interviews to hear some of these personal stories.

Indoor Shoes and Extra Clothes

We had record high weather this week which also was the cause of many muddy shoes.  Some classrooms are filled with muddy floors bringing in lots of mud and dirt.  If your child does not have indoor shoes, please have them bring them on Monday.  Also please send extra socks and pants for those wet clothes after play.
