Owen Family Update - Week of April 5th, 2021

Hello Owen Families,

We can't believe April is already here!  Spring is a time of celebration in many cultures.  We had learned about Nowruz and Passover.  Here are videos to learn more about Holi and Easter celebrations.

What is Holi Festival?

5 Easter Traditions Around the World

This weekend, many of our families will be celebrating Easter.  Happy Easter to those who celebrate.

We also had a great April Fool's Day.  There were lots of sticky notes on our backs, Pikachu was asked to come to the office to charge the iPads, students were to look out for the Easter rabbit outside during recess.  There was an oversight on the morning announcements video about Easter that said parents hid the Easter eggs.  Our apologies on this and we hope that students saw this as one of the April Fool's jokes along with the other ones.

Just a reminder, there is no school on Good Friday April 2nd and Easter Monday April 5th.

                                         Latin-America History Month

                                        Wednesday, April 7th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

During the month of April, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is proud to recognize April
as Latin-America History Month. This year’s theme – a “(DeColonizing) Latin-America History
Month: Learning together, from the Eagle, Quetzal and Condor about our pasts with our relatives
of today,” –braids the different elements of our complex and diverse personal, academic and
professional identities, lived experiences, ways of knowing and teaching, social positionality and
levels of impact due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We aim to grow stronger as a TDSB community
by sharing our stories of resilience, struggle and success, in relation to intentionally honouring
and co-creating with the many territories and peoples over which the Eagle, the Quetzal and
the Condor fly.

Keeping Owen Safe

We are very proud at how our students have adapted to all the COVID restrictions we have in place at school.  At times if students exhibit at least one of the COVID symptoms, students will be brought to our Wellness room to relax and draw while office staff call home to arrange for students to be picked up.  We will continue with this process and appreciate the support and cooperation we have received from parents.  This is important to keep our school germ free from many illnesses.

Below are some resources to help answer some questions you may have.

Celebrate World Health Day on April 7th!

Outdoor Resources for your Family

Families can help support outdoor learning at school and beyond. Time spent outdoors is beneficial to the whole family, improving physical and mental health, and wellbeing.
