THANK YOU!!!
Dear Parents/Guardians
I hope you are enjoying your summer with this summer heat! I would like to wish all our families who are moving onto other schools all the best for a successful new year.
At the end of the summer, you will receive an email to update you on our first day procedures. Parents/Guardians of students moving onto to new schools will be removed from our mail list. A new list will be generated after the first day of school.
Here is an update on construction...
Field
TDSB will focus on making major improvements to the soil composition. This involves adding a large volume of compost and drainage sand. This work will help the site drain better, resist compaction from all of the foot traffic, and create a better medium for growing grass. They will also remove the soccer posts as we have had issues with wasps in the poles and students getting injured from running into the poles. We will replace it with other movable objects to allow more games and play happening in the field. They may start an irrigation system as well but it’s possible they will just be able to rough in a water line from the school to the field, and then follow up in 2019 with the rest of the system.
Playground
The playground construction is on its way. There will be a new junior playground installed on the west side. The existing primary playground will be taken down and replaced with a new one. The kindergarten playground will be modified and redesigned to help with the drainage. The daycare playground will also be redesigned. Areas around the pavement will be redone to help with flooding and drainage as well. Basketball courts, ball courts and near the bus loop will also have a facelift.
Towers and Front Entrances 1 & 2
This project has now changed from a repair of the entrances/towers to a redesign. Continuous water damage over the years has caused the brick to deteriorate. We needed to re-examine a longer term solution for the towers/entrance. They are now looking at replacing the material of the towers which requires a new design. This process takes a bit more time and will most likely continue to be worked on throughout the next school year. However, the work being done is not as invasive to our school functions.
The contracting companies will be working straight throughout the summer. Their hours of work is approx from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Please have discussions at home with your children about keeping safe and staying away from the construction areas. I know many are excited to see their new space but we also want to ensure that after hours, students are not climbing the scaffolds, fences or columns as these can be very dangerous.
I will be updated bi-weekly throughout the summer about the progress and will update our Owen families at the end of August. Hopefully the weather cooperates and everything will go as planned!
I want to thank OSAC and parents, Owen Community Learning Centre, TDSB board members, staff and students for their input and patience throughout this process. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Dear Owen Community,
It has been such a privilege
to be a part of this wonderful school for the past six years! Thank you for all
the encouragement and support you have shown me over the years. I will treasure
having been a part of your children's lives. I will be forever grateful.
Owen will always hold a very
special place in my heart -- so many great memories!
Thank you for everything!
I wish you a relaxing, fun
filled summer.
Lots of love,
