May 31, 2020

Hello Owen Families,

We have come to the end of May and have been online now for 2 1/2 months.  Only one more month of school before our summer holidays.

With businesses beginning to open and schools preparing for entry to pick up items, students may ask what face coverings are and why do we need them. Here is a great site to help explain this.

Don't forget to check out TDSB's

Mental Health and Well-Being Resources During Covid-19 to help your child through this pandemic.  Check out the TikTok Messages of Hope created by TDSB students.

Challenge to Owen students!
What messages of hope can you send to the Owen Community?  Share with your teacher, class or Ms Rosenbloom so we can see it here in the Owen Online Bulletin.

Picking Up Student Items from School

The Toronto Public Health has approved the following protocol for parents to be allowed to come into the school to pick up student items before the year ends.  It is not mandatory to come to the school to pick up belongings and students or parents/guardians should only visit the school if absolutely necessary.

A schedule to sign up will be sent out later this week for parents to sign up to pick up items between June 8th and June 26th.  There are very strict guidelines that everyone must follow in order to keep everyone safe and healthy:

  • Please be patient.
  • Anyone entering the school must do a self-assessment prior to coming to the school.  Only those who have passed the self-assessment with no COVID-19 symptoms will be allowed access.
  • Arrive on time.
  • Enter only through designated doors.
  • Each visit is limited to 15 minutes.  If you have more than one child, you can pick up your other children's items during that time.
  • Students and parents are strongly encouraged to bring and wear their own mask or face covering;
  • Respect all physical distancing requirements, staying at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you.
  • Drop off any items, such as library books, at the entrance door (include your child’s name, teacher and list of items returned).
  • Retrieve belongings from classroom/portable.
  • Put any garbage in the bins provided.
  • Anything that is not collected will be bagged, labelled and stored until schools reopen.
  • Know that playgrounds are not open.
  • Exit school building and property promptly.

Terry Fox Activities

Adding to the excitement of this special 40th Anniversary year, adidas Canada has harkened back to their storied history with Terry. After announcing a limited-edition nine-piece collection of Terry Fox merchandise, including the release of the original Orion running shoes, we are pleased to share that the first of the nine-piece collection sold out yesterday in 10 minutes. With a goal of raising $1 million, all net proceeds of the collection will go to The Terry Fox Foundation to support the best and brightest in Canadian cancer research.

In celebration of this initiative, we are excited to share with you an additional student colouring page to the selection of activities we sent you in April – Terry’s iconic adidas running shoe image. We hope this colouring page will be of help to you with your continued eLearning practices.

Hello Owen Families,

Happy Victoria Day!  We hope you enjoyed the good weather we had on Saturday!

You can find more history about why we celebrate Victoria Day at Canada's History for Kids and the cpac video Did You Know? - Victoria Day.

What's open on Victoria Day 2019 in Muskoka? | MuskokaRegion.com

We may not be able to be in Owen, but we can certainly still enjoy walking by Owen and enjoying the Spring blooms!  Claire and Vicky are two students new to Owen during school closure during the COVIC-19 pandemic.  Thank you both for putting this video for all to enjoy!

Thanks Owen for joining us at our Staff Drive By!

What a fun day on the Staff Drive By with Owen Staff!

Thank you Ms McRae for organizing the day!

If you followed the parade on route you were able to say hi and see the decorated cars, bikes and signs saying how much we miss our students!

Even our dogs were happy to say hello!

But the best was seeing our Owen families who came out to say hello!

It was great to see the signs and see the joy in connecting as a community.  Thank you everyone for your support during the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping yourselves safe and healthy!

We would love to collect your photos and videos.  Please upload your memories here on our Google Drive.  It was a great Owen Day!
