November - Week 1

Student Activity Fees - School Cash Online
2018-2019 Owen Student Activity Fees are now online, please pay by November 9th.

This fee includes the cost of an Every Day Folder ($1.50) and/or Agenda ($4.50) used for communication between school and home, School Wide Lice Check ($6) performed by an external company 3 times throughout the year, Wellness Activities ($5), 1 Scientist In School classroom workshop ($10) and 2 performances from Prologue to the Performing Arts ($10).

Students already received their Every Day Folders and the Agendas, the School had the first lice check and Scientist In School classroom workshop starting soon.

Food Drive for the Daily Bread Food Bank

Starting Monday, our Spirit Council is running a Food Drive until Friday, November 23rd. Our goal is to have each student bring in two food items to donate to the Daily Bread Food Bank. Math Night Presentation & Handout

Thank you for attending our Parent Only Math Session.  Your enthusiasm and engagement made it a fun night and we enjoyed learning and laughing together.

I have posted the presentation, handout and some of the activities.  If there were activities that you tried but do not see here, please feel free to contact me and we’ll get them posted as well.

Our math club has been sharing problems with different grades.  Ask your child about these too.

Star Gazing Party - Wed Nov 14th

Join us for a fun evening of stargazing with volunteers fromthe Royal Astronomical Society. We are hoping for clear skies to see Mars, Saturn and other interesting star clusters!
We will start at around 6:00 pm once it gets dark. If the skies are not clear, we can try for Thursday November 15th as our backup date.

Early French Immersion Program: 
The application process for the Early French Immersion program opens on Oct. 29 and the deadline is Nov. 26. Applications are made the year a child is in Junior Kindergarten (or is of Junior Kindergarten age) for entry in Senior Kindergarten. It is an entirely online process.

Read & Write Gold @ Home
Read and Write Gold is designed to provide literacy support for students. It supports a Universal Design of Learning model which aids students in accessing the curriculum and completing reading, writing and research assignments. When used in conjunction with other applications, Read & Write allows students to experience greater independence and promotes inclusive classroom practices. This software incorporates the functionality of many pieces of software. As a result, it eliminates the need for students to train on multiple technologies.

Kids Kitchen Update


November 2018


Dear Parents,

Winter is around the corner and so we would like to take this opportunity to clarify our policy on lunch service during inclement weather for your school.

If the school buses are cancelled due to inclement weather and the schools are OPEN

- Kid’s Kitchen lunches will still be delivered.

Lunches will not automatically be cancelled due to bus cancellations. If you child is not going to school, please call us at 905-944-0210. We will extend our cancellation time to 8am ONLY on the days when the buses are cancelled. Our regular cancellation time is 7am. Cancellations will be accepted by PHONE Only.

If you do not cancel lunch, it will be delivered to the school and still charged to your account.

Please do not hesitate to contact us directly if you have any questions or concerns.
