Food Allergy Canada is a nationally registered charity committed to educating, supporting, and advocating for the more than 2.6 million Canadians with food allergy.

NEW! Be the first to listen to the "Shine a light" song

Kyle Dine, world famous musician (in food allergy circles!) and food allergy advocate, has recorded a brand new song titled "Shine a light" in support of our Halloween campaign.

The catchy and upbeat song highlights how shining a teal light this Halloween will show kids with food allergies and their families that your house is allergy aware and prepared with non-food treats.

Give "Shine a Light" a listen and share it with your friends and family to spread food allergy awareness. Download it from iTunes here. #ShineATealLight

Wear Purple on October 24!

On Wednesday, October 24 the TDSB will join with our community partners, child welfare agencies and the police to raise awareness about the rights of children and youth to safety and well-being in all aspects of their lives by wearing something PURPLE! This year’s theme is The Community that Cares for Kids.

It is important that children know they have a right to safety and that as caring adults we will help them. The Child, Youth and Family Act states that it is everyone’s responsibility to focus on the safety of children and youth under the age of 18. It is a legal obligation to report to a child welfare agency any disclosures of abuse, things we witness or reasonable suspicions that a child is being harmed. You are not alone. Every school has an assigned social worker who can answer your questions, provide counselling to students and training to staff and parents.

Your Monthly Parent Engagement Tips | It's time to Dream BIG Again!
Parents Engaged in Education | October 2018

We invite you to Dream Big with us again!

Welcome to the October issue of our School Council newsletter. This month we provide an outline of topics that you may wish to cover at this month's school council meeting. Along with this article, we have included a template for your school council and principal to use and fill out to get to know your school better. This template is an excellent stepping stone as it will provide a snapshot of the whole school. This will easily allow members to be better informed as they provide advice and make decisions on how they can support the educational experience of every student in the school. I hope that you will find this tool of great use and valuable to your school council.

November 3rd is the fourth Annual DREAM BIG School Council Training Symposium where council members learn, share and network with others. In addition, we offer a great Lunch! Throughout the lunch period, a variety of vendors will be available to meet with council members. This is a worthwhile opportunity to make connections with companies that service the education community in Ontario. It definitely is worth the trip to Toronto! We have had parents from all over Ontario make the trip and they have told me they aim to attend again! Every member of your council will benefit from this symposium. Remember to bring your whole team! I can't wait to meet you at the DREAM BIG symposium!

I know many of you are receiving our e-newsletter for the very first time. Our goal is to increase parent engagement in our schools and everyday lives. I encourage you to visit our website and share our blogs with other parents. We have built a great resource of information for parents, teachers and school councils and will continue to do so.

As always remember to
DREAM BIG - TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE!!!

Skate Drive
Need to replace your skates or helmets for the next season?  If so, why not donate your gently used skates and helmets to help others learn to skate.

Grenoble Public School has a vibrant skating program for it's students. Over many, many years, used skates and helmets were donated and many applications for grant money were completed. The result is a vibrant program where students go skating at the Angela James Arena. For many, it is their first time on the ice. These skates and helmets are lent out to community families over the weekend as well, so that they can continue to participate in the free skate time at the arena with their children. It is such an incredible initiative.

Let's get Owen involved to help Grenoble replenish some of the skates and helmets that are now beyond their expiry date.  Please bring any used skates and helmets to school and we will collect them in the office for a delivery to Grenoble PS.

Hot Lunch Program
Kids Kitchen will be providing lunches this year. To order lunches click here:  http://www.owenpublicschool.ca/lunch/
